Dawule Baba,
the Polo Professor.

He turned professional in 1982 alongside Usman Dantata, rode in England, Brazil and the United States, and carried a +5 handicap for ten unbroken years — a mark only one other Nigerian has ever matched. He founded this house in 1993 and sat on the Kaduna Polo Club Board of Trustees until his death.

Everything below stands on ground he cleared.

The house

Six lines of business,
one standard.

Importation

Argentina and Sudan

Top polo ponies sourced, quarantined and shipped into Nigeria — the route we have run longer than anyone in the country.

Trading

Buying, selling, export

Polo ponies and race horses traded across Nigeria, and exported to neighbouring countries in West Africa.

Retail

The Kaduna tack shop

Nigeria's first importer of polo equipment. Mallets, saddlery, boots and protection, on the same street for thirty years.

Academy

Learning the game

From first sitting to first tournament. Riding, stick and ball, rules of the line — taught the way the professor taught it.

Consultancy

Polo and horse welfare

Stable design, feeding and conditioning programmes, string management and welfare advisory for owners and clubs.

Projects

General contracting

The group's construction arm, delivering equestrian infrastructure and general works.

Co-founders of Play Chukka

Polo, for the next generation.

A browser polo simulation that teaches the game — chukkas, handicaps, the line of the ball — to people who have never sat on a horse. The fastest way to grow a sport is to let people play it before they can afford it.
